Characteristics

The dog rose is also called the common dog rose and heather rose. It can also be given the botanical species name Rosa canina. It belongs to the category of wild roses. The common dog rose reaches heights of 2-3 meters. The growth widths also extend in a range of 2-3 meters. Furthermore, the heather rose is characterized by an upright and hanging growth.

Pollination and foliage

Rosa canina is monoecious. Two types of pollination can be noted. This includes both cross-pollination and pollination by insects. The dog rose is a deciduous shrub. In that time of year the viewer can enjoy the alternately arranged leaves with serrated leaflets. The radially symmetrical flowers with a double flower envelope can also be examined. The stylus are mostly available in a bare design.

Soil condition

The heather rose is a relatively adaptable plant. Soils containing humus and limestone are accepted without any complaints. Nevertheless, you can give it pleasure with sandy as well as loamy soils. A moderately dry to moderately fresh soil moisture is also gratefully accepted. On the other hand, Rosa canina will not feel comfortable on particularly wet soil.

Provenance

With the exception of Finland and Iceland, the hardy dog rose occurs throughout Europe. Rosa canina has worked its way east to the Volga. Isolated stocks can be found in North Africa and the Middle East. In northern America it settled as a neophyte due to anthropogenic activity.

Uses

In the past, the common dog rose was used to fight rabies. Today, this pioneering plant is more likely to be planted on roadsides and in sparse forests. In addition to its use as a bird protection hedge, the possible use on beach ridges should not go entirely unmentioned.

Ps. Sehr freundliche gesprächspartnerin am telefon, ich meine not schildern konnte. Danke
