Characteristics

The ephemera is also called the spindle tree and the common spindle bush. The botanical name is Euonymus Europaeus. It can grow to heights of 2-5 meters. The crown is often densely branched. The four-edged branches can be defined as a significant distinguishing feature of the Pfaffenhütchen.

Pollination and foliage

Euonymus Europaeus is monocial. Cross pollination and insect pollination can be named as types of pollination. The egg-shaped leaves have a simple leaf structure and serrated leaf margins in addition to an opposing leaf arrangement. The four-fold flowers, on the other hand, are relatively small and have a double flower envelope.

Soil condition

The Pfaffenhütchen is happy about a low-salt, calcareous and dry soil. In combination with a sunny place, you can look forward to particularly beautiful leaves. If in doubt, the spindle tree also grows in partially shaded locations. The Pfaffenhütchen is a beautiful native wild shrub that does very well in dry locations.

Provenance

Euonymus Europaeus can be found especially in Central Europe. The common spindle bush has spread to southern Sweden and Latvia. However, one can also find the ephemeral in Asia Minor.

Uses

Euonymus Europaeus is poisonous to humans. Therefore, you should definitely refrain from culinary use. However, the Pfaffenhütchen has some uses. Due to the preference of the common spindle bush for forest edges, hedges and slopes, the ephemeral cone is suitable for planting as a bird nutritional wood. The preference of many species of birds for the fruits of the common spindle bush can be cited as a further argument for this venture. In particular in combination with other wild shrubs from our range, an existing forest ecosystem can be upgraded according to the modular principle, individually for the benefit of the forest dwellers. This means, for example, the cornel, privet and dogwood. Please do not hesitate to contact us. Together we will find the right solution for your forest ecosystem.
